Day 196 – The Basement Bar

We just finished our basement renovation – the carpeting was laid today, and we passed all of our inspections. I guess it’s not totally done – we will still need a little touch-up paint work. But, after a month and a half of dishevelment, we can finally start putting things back into our basement.

Here’s our li’l red, twenty-buck, four-quarter, crockpot from Best Buy.

The idea for our crockpotluck came about a few weeks ago, sitting around the table at TIm/Agnes home playing poker. I had just bought this little guy after talking about, dreaming of, and envisioning meals that cooked themselves for *so* long [as k can attest], and I happened to ask Tim/Agnes if they’d been using the one on their kitchen counter. Fortunately, James chimed in with his crockpot expertise, and testified that it did indeed make one’s culinary life that much easier – well, that and baby carrots.

my family all sit around the table and play poker. i am looking for some new games to play. we play follow the queen..5′s and 10′s… seven card no peek etc. can someone give me some new ideas or a link to where i can find some please..

I am having a table made for our newly-finished basement and am trying to figure out what the OPTIMAL SIZE is. Here are my criteria:

I have space for pretty much any size round or oval, up to 60″ diameter.

I want to comfortably accommodate 8 players for poker, but also have the table be functional for a 2- or 4-person board game.

I DON’T want one of those single-function poker tables with padding, felt and cupholders.

Small party at house. I already have a large dining room table and can cover with green felt. The guys are playing regular poker. Any ideas?

Actually round tables are probably best. If you have an oval poker table like you see on TV it can be difficult to use unless you have a person who is willing to deal the whole time. Oval tables are tricky to use if you rotate the deal, because at some point someone on the very end is trying to deal the cards to the opposite end of the table.
