go to your local book store and find a good poker book, the only one i have has a list of hands that are rated and on the following pages it tells you what kinds of hand you play using position (early middle late position in accordance to the button) premium hands consist of AA KK QQ JJ AK those are all good hands to start with you already know that. there’s also average hands bargain hands Drawing hands and Trash hands. My book is Better Betting Guide to poker written by Basil Nestor

You can last a long time by folding most hands – however you are not likely to cash in a large tournament this way. Play your position, play aggressively, and get all of your chips in even when you have a slight edge. Pay attention to other players stacks – don’t try to bluff a big stack, but you can sometimes bluff or push a small stack around depending on the size of the pot. If you play tight early you can take advantage later and may be able to buy some pots. One simple rule I try to keep in the back of my head: Play small pots with small hands, play big pots with big hands.

You will not last long in a tournament unless you understand the game a little. Pick up Phil Gordon’s Little Black Book. It’s short, easy and fun to read, and you will learn enough to have fun at the table.
